Trauma Therapy in Adelaide

Experiencing trauma can leave you feeling overwhelmed, constantly on edge or disconnected from yourself and others. Difficult experiences may continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships and sense of safety long after the event has passed. At Insightology, Ryan Eyre provides evidence-based trauma therapy for adolescents (14+) and adults in Adelaide, offering a safe, collaborative and non-judgemental space to understand your experiences, strengthen coping skills and work towards meaningful recovery at a pace that feels right for you.

What is Trauma?

Trauma is a psychological response to experiences that overwhelm a person's ability to cope. While trauma is often associated with events such as serious accidents, violence or abuse, it can also arise from experiences including medical procedures, sudden loss, bullying, relationship difficulties or repeated exposure to distressing situations.

People respond to trauma differently. Two individuals may experience the same event but be affected in very different ways depending on their history, support systems and personal circumstances. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to respond to trauma, and many people find that seeking professional support helps them better understand their experiences and regain a sense of safety and control.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Trauma therapy aims to help you better understand how past experiences may be affecting your current thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. Therapy is not about forcing you to revisit difficult memories before you are ready. Instead, treatment is tailored to your individual needs and progresses at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Ryan draws on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy (ST) to help clients develop emotional regulation skills, reduce the ongoing impact of traumatic experiences, and reconnect with the aspects of life that are most important to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to talk about my trauma in the first session?

No. The initial appointment focuses on understanding your current concerns, building rapport and discussing your goals for therapy. You will never be pressured to discuss experiences before you feel ready.

Can therapy help if my trauma happened many years ago?

Yes. People often seek therapy months or even years after a traumatic experience. Therapy can still be beneficial in helping you understand ongoing difficulties and develop new ways of responding.

What types of trauma do you work with?

Ryan works with adolescents and adults experiencing the effects of a wide range of traumatic experiences. Therapy is tailored to your individual circumstances and goals.

Do you offer Telehealth trauma therapy?

Yes. Secure Telehealth appointments are available for clients who prefer to access therapy remotely or are unable to attend the practice in person.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book an appointment directly without a referral. However, if you wish to access Medicare rebates, a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP may be required.
